"" The Council "
He had gone Home.
To visit a lake where few ventured.
A place where Spirit was close coming in many forms.
It was found in the fresh Springs that filled the lake - the gentle Wind that filled his sails - the warmth of the late afternoon Sun turning everything golden - the smell of the pines of the Earth. Spirit was found in the elements that surrounded him. And Spirit was in the friends that would gather there taking on many earthly forms.
This day was set apart from others. He came to regroup. A time to think but perhaps more a reckoning with Greater Spirit, a balancing of what had been thrown asunder.
His life was unlike others. It was a life of unseen work, often negotiating for events, of prearranged meetings and connections with others. There were many things others in the world could simply choose and enjoy. For him they were arranged far in advance. Things were set in motion. Sometimes approved of from higher. Simple things did not come easy. Impossible things did. Some days that seemed a paradox too great. Other days it just was, and he easily accepted. On this day a Balance was needed and called for.
I guess thinking back he called the council. At the time on the lake he wasn't sure. He did not recognize those who came, or perhaps simply did not remember who they were. They appeared as five Bald Eagles evenly spaced in the trees. They slowly turned in unison watching. They never flew. Never moved. They just watched carefully from their perches. He knew these Watchers were not from here. If they were the Eagle mom with the six kids who lived here would have chased them off immediately. Strange eagles aren't allowed on her lake. It was for raising her kids. Her special protected space for her family.
The Council of Eagles had an immense presense, and just watched.
What were they observing? What were they deciding?
He did not know. But he knew where they came from.
He left them to watch and sailed the gentle waters.
When he reached the far side of the lake what he found was as uncommon as the Five Eagles. So many had come out. Some he had not seen before. Some were familiar friends. - Two very young beavers played and munched plants, totally unafraid of his presence.
An Otter sat sunbathing on a rock. He had never seen one out of the water. Especially in the middle of the day like this. Clearly this was a special day.
While watching them awhile he heard gentle splashing behind him in the water. He finally turned to leave and behind him on the shore was momma Bear with her three kids. They had been there the whole time as well.
He had seen Bears before on the lake. But never close. Always a fleeing moment. On this day clearly all on the lake were present and joined in the council. Even her cousin the Raccoon was there on a nearby rock.
One of the young Eagles had watched him from a limb. It kept it's distance from the Council Eagles but stayed to see. It wanted to be seen and let him come close.
Many who were there that day were young. From this Eagle, to the two Beaver children. The three Bear cubs with their mom. Later, he saw a year old Loon with his parents. Children representing the new he thought. New energies, fresh influences, new Worlds coming in? He was not sure. But it felt good to see.
He had never before seen such a representation of all who lived on the lake. All wanted to be seen. All wanted to join in and be heard. Council Fires was all about that. A calling of everyone's voice.
What did they all say he wondered. He did not hear.
But he was sure the Five who came heard and saw clearly.
Perhaps they were simply there showing their support for him.
Standing up and being counted.
Everyone's voice was heard. Including his.
The waves carried the messages as they flowed across the lake.

As the Sun set he Honored and Thanked all who showed.
All those who came and spoke that day.
What would the Council of Eagles decide? What might change with the coming winds? He continued to Hope and Dream.
His requests were simple yet would Change the World, for him and others.
